Howdy Y’all!

This is who I am now, deal with it.

So here we are. A few years and a few career changes later, we are in the good state of Oklahoma. We rented for two years, and after the rent just kept increasing, we knew it was time to make a change. We found a beautiful property of 14 acres and a solid house and went in feet first. Real estate in the area was going like hot cakes and at the time the hubs was out of state for work. The house had been on the market for a total of two days and already had 5 other offers when I did a walk through and made an offer then and there. The very sweet couple who lived here I guess liked us the best, because we got the house!

Now, there were some trade offs to get the land we wanted at the price we could afford. We now both have a commute of about 40-45 minutes every day, but the peace we feel when home is worth it.

The day we moved in, before anything went into the house, I took pictures. I knew there were so many things that would be changing and I wanted to capture the essence of the house pre-transformation.

THE OUTSIDE

Along with the house, we got 14 acres of land. I CAN’T tell you how many hours I have daydreamed of what we will do with it, but for now it is secondary to getting the house optimized.

THE KITCHEN

This is a wonderfully large kitchen, but the space is poorly utilized and it feels very dark. There is a whole wall of windows to the left of the oven but hardly any get in due to the absolute unit of a cabinet that holds the microwave and oven.

We have two, count ’em, TWO islands.

THE DINING ROOM

You better believe the first thing I did after moving in was rip down all the curtains in the house.

THE LIVING ROOM

Forgive the poor image quality. This room is pretty big and couldn’t be captured with single images.

This built in desk/bookshelf combo just isn’t doing it for me. I don’t have nearly that many books, nor do I want to put things on each shelf to make it look full
The closets on either side of the entry are a very good size, but both are configured as coat closets. Since this isn’t our main entry, the plan is to convert them to shelved closets for storage.

THE LAUNDRY ROOM

That door goes to the HVAC.
That weird panel on the wall there is for access to the water heater.

THE HALLWAY

Not a fan of all the open shelving in this house.

THE MASTER BEDROOM

The monitor on the right is for the security system. The shelf holds the hard drive and all the wires on the ground are the power supply and the power strip for the cameras.
No, you’re right, there’s no door to the bathroom.

THE MASTER BATHROOM

Look at that. More open shelving.

THE OTHER HALLWAY

Door at the end is for linens. The bookshelves here are being used for the kids books and arts/crafts supplies. The door to the guest bath is to the left around the corner.
